Lesson 22

Fraudulent – Dishonest or intended to deceive someone for personal gain.

Example Sentence – The company was shut down after it was discovered that it was involved in fraudulent activities.

Hammock – A swinging bed made of fabric or rope, suspended between two points.

Example Sentence – She relaxed in a hammock tied between two coconut trees by the beach.

Certifiable – Officially recognised as meeting certain standards, or informally, considered crazy or extreme.

Example Sentence – The document is certifiable proof of his qualifications.

Desperate – Feeling or showing a hopeless sense that a situation is so bad it is impossible to deal with.

Example Sentence – He was desperate to find a solution before the deadline.

Thereupon – Immediately after that; as a result of that.

Example Sentence – She signed the agreement, and thereupon the contract became effective.

Indispensable – Absolutely necessary; essential.

Example Sentence – A reliable internet connection is indispensable for remote work.

Weight – The measure of how heavy something is; also, importance or influence.

Example Sentence – The doctor advised him to monitor his weight regularly.

Beacon – A guiding or warning light; something that serves as a signal or source of inspiration.

Example Sentence – The lighthouse served as a beacon for ships during the storm.

Crumple – To crush or collapse into wrinkles or folds.

Example Sentence – She watched the paper crumple as she squeezed it in frustration.

Phantasm – A figment of the imagination; something that appears real but is not.

Example Sentence – The shadow in the dark hallway seemed like a phantasm of his fears.
