She is the youngest but with a spirit of equals. Janell Almeida, the eleven year old student of Fatima Convent High School, Margao was quite an attraction when she took on the tall and lanky players and was the cynosure of all for being the youngest player in the Subroto Girls Under-17 tournament being held in Goa.
The student of class VII was a story of determination and courage when she came in as substitute for her school team. Not the tallest of the lot, Janell was fast when in possession of the ball and outsmarted her opponents with her deft footwork. She played like an attacking medio capable of scoring when she got her chance.
Janell pulled a goal back for her team with a stunning goal to beat Regina Martyrum High School keeper Pritty Keserkar.
Her coach Covan Lawrence, aware of her enthusiasm and eagerness to play, gave her a try as a substitute and she obliged by scoring a smart goal, after beating three rival defenders on sheer speed.
Janell hails from Fatorda and has been following ISL football matches. She disclosed that she watched World Cup Football matches and that Ronaldo is her star.
“I want to become a doctor when I grow,” disclosed Janell.
