Saligao/Candolim: A woman constable attached to the Saligao police station tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the shutdown of the said police station for seven days.
As a precautionary measure, the Calangute police station too has been closed for the people.
Health officer of Candolim PHC Dr Roshan Nazareth said that a woman constable attached to the Saligao police station tested positive. The woman cop is a resident of Valpoi and underwent the COVID test in that town.
Consequently, swab samples of 46 people, including police personnel, were taken in Saligao as the woman constable had been on night duty two days ago. The police personnel have been asked to undergo quarantine for 14 days.
The COVID situation has worsened in Bardez taluka, as 16 more residents of the Malwankar colony in Nerul tested positive for the virus taking the tally to 26 in the colony.
Dr Nazareth confirmed that 16 residents of the colony tested positive.
Swab samples of those who came in contact with the COVID positive people in Nerul will be taken on Monday, he said. It has been maintained that contact tracing has become a headache in the taluka as people have been moving to different places in an attempt to keep the virus at bay
