MAPUSA: In order to tide over the water shortage faced by people in the village, the Nachinola village panchayat on Sunday resolved that an underground sump is needed and that it will do a follow up with the water supplies department. The panchayat also proposed to construct iron mesh cage for collection of dry garbage.
Besides issues like children’s park, toilets, shifting of electricity poles etc were also discussed during the ordinary gram sabha meeting of Nachinola panchayat.
Initially, the meeting was adjourned for half an hour and later again for fifteen minutes due to lack of quorum. The meeting was presided over by Govind Govekar in presence of panchayat secretary Clifton Azavedo and observer Ivo Lawrence.
Nachinola sarpanch Govind Govekar informed the gram sabha that “the panchayat has proposed to take up work of construction of iron mesh cage for collection of dry garbage at the panchayat which will be covered with plastic shade to protect from monsoon under 14th finance commission fund. Since we do not have land to store collected garbage, we have to go for iron mesh-made cage so that collected garbage is not littered around by the stray dogs or anyone else.”
Later gram sabha member Vaman Naik proposed to take up construction of addition toilets in the village which could be taken up under 14th Finance Commission.
Another important resolution taken was regarding the underground sump which was proposed years back by junior engineer to solve the water shortage problem in the village. Gopikant Shirodkar, a villager, brought to the notice of the gram sabha members that the then junior engineer of water supply Shakespeare had proposed to construct underground sump at the open space near the existing overhead tank adding, “The water collected in the underground sump could be pumped into overhead tank once it is empty. If an underground sump is constructed then it can be resolved moreover the cost of a sump will be comparatively less than an overhead tank.”
The proposal was accepted and it was resolved that the panchayat will do a follow up with the water supplies department.
The villagers also raised concern over the de-silting of drains, garbage being dumped along the roadsides and menace of mosquitoes. Panchayat secretary informed, “We are in final stage in regards to de-silting and soon it will start, garbage is being collected from along the roadsides and every Tuesday, a team of Aldona PHC visits to keep check on mosquitoes.”
Another issue discussed at length was regarding the children’s park at the panchayat building which was recently inaugurated. Concern was raised over the quality of work which was executed by the contractor especially with regards to playing equipments by a gram sabha member Satish Govekar.
Later after long discussion it was resolved that the panchayat would write to the block development officer Bardez to depute engineer who would do an assessment of the work executed.
The issue of shifting of electricity poles on the middle of road near Ravalghadi Arcarde was also raised wherein villagers demanded the panchayat to take up the matter with the electricity department to shift the poles.
