Amona on Wednesday and Thursday observed the festival of Vhodle Dev.
The emblems of Goddess Shantadurga – the ‘kalash’ – and that of Lord Betal – the ‘tarang’ – are taken around the village to each house. The kalash is carried by a ‘jalmi’ and the Tarang is carried by a member of the Fadte family as the procession moves from house to house where a short puja is done in the courtyard of each house and the devotees seek blessings.
The procession then culminates at the temple courtyard.
This ritual has been followed by the devotees for the past 600 years, and the house visits to about 500 houses are carried over a period of two days.
