Vasco: Vasco police have informed that they have arrested Moinuddin Pathan (28), a resident of New Vaddem, Vasco for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman and forcing her into prostitution.
The police said that the alleged accused was placed under arrest on late Wednesday night, following a complaint from the victim, and added that “the accused was friendly with the victim from August 2019 to November 3, 2019 and under the pretext of providing her accommodation and getting married, he sexually assaulted her. The accused later forced the victim into prostitution by sending her to different customers for monetary gains.”
“The accused had assaulted the victim and even threatened her with dire consequences. The victim is originally from Delhi and was residing in Margao,” the police added.
The police in this connection have registered offences under sections 370, 376, 323, and 506 (ii) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention (ITP) Act.
The accused was placed under arrest. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, on Thursday and has been remanded to 12-day police custody.
Vasco PI Nilesh Rane is investigating the case under the supervision of deputy superintendent of police (Vasco) Raju Raut Dessai.
