The United   Tribal  Association Alliance  (UTAA) leader and  former  Education Minister Prakash Velip on  Friday  said that  UTAA will be holding an  agitation  at Azad maidan, Panaji on January  14 to press for their demand for  political reservation in the forthcoming election. Addressing the media, Velip said that their prime demand of  giving political  reservation to the  ST  community was  ignored despite approaching the central and state governments.

“Our rights have been denied.  In 2007 and  2012 elections, political  reservation was denied to  us (ST people), despite repeated memorandums and  agitations held in the  state. We have now pined our hopes on the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar that he would  consider our  demand  through the parliamentary process,’’ he said.

Velip informed that they have recently submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister, Defence Minister, Central Tribal Minister, Goa Chief Minister etc. He said that the central government had in the past brought an ordinance on three occasions but due to certain reasons it could not be passed and made an Act. Meanwhile, Velip said that the Sahakar Bharti- Goa Pradesh will be celebrating the foundation day on January 11 at Margao Ravindra Bhavan.  Maharashtra Minister Shekhar Charegaonkar will be the chief guest for the programme.
