RIBANDAR: Ribandar locals have expressed the need for deploying a traffic policeman at the village junction towards the end of the patto, as it has turned into a deathtrap for motorists and pedestrians.
The residents said that the spot has already been declared as accident-prone zone by the traffic police and therefore, there has to be a policeman deployed at the junction opposite Ribandar church to man the traffic and for the benefit of pedestrians.
They pointed out that the junction also witnesses heavy traffic congestion, especially during peak hours and it is become a routine affair. They said heavy flow of tourist vehicles is also adding to the congestion on the village main road.
The locals said that the pedestrians are the ones who suffer the most during peak hours as crossing from one end of the road to the other becomes an uphill task, considering continuous movement of the vehicles. This is especially witnessed from 8.30 a.m to 11 a.m and in the evening from 5.30 to 7.30.
Further pick up and drop stops by buses near the junction are also adding to the traffic woes, the locals said.
The junction is an entry and exit point for motorists and since there is no alternative road, the spot has turned into a death trap. Also there is no parking space for vehicles in the vicinity and, therefore, vehicles are found parked haphazardly, leading to traffic congestion.
