The state legislative assembly, at the beginning of the Question Hour on Wednesday, witnessed uproarious scenes, with the opposition MLAs taking strong objection to the statement of Panchayati Raj Minister Rajendra Arlekar that they have no issues to discuss, and hence are unnecessarily making noise in the assembly.
Leader of the Opposition, interpreted this statement as casting aspersions on the members of the House, and said that the minister cannot level allegations against the members of the House. “We have not come here to waste any time, and we have plenty of issues,” he added.
Earlier, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte brought to the notice of the Speaker Anant Shet that departments have been consistently avoiding giving replies to the questions of the MLAs. He further said that the department of Panchayati Raj has failed to answer his question on Wednesday, and demanded action against the officials.
Arlekar told the Porvorim MLA that he should meet the Speaker in his chamber and resolve the issue, instead of wasting the time of the House.
Maintaining that the MLAs are yet to fully understand the concept of ‘paperless assembly’, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the ministers are regularly replying to the questions of MLAs, however these replies were not getting loaded on assembly website.
Margao MLA suggested that the MLA, who asks the particular question, should be given hard copy of the reply.
