Salcete truck owners, on Saturday, demanded with the government to either shift the transport department office to the South Goa Collectorate building or provide all the related services at the existing office of the transport department located at the Osia Complex, Margao.
These truckers pointed out that the government has connected the transport department to the Citizen Service Counter that has been recently opened at the South Goa Collectorate building, and that has increased their hardships.
“Today, what has happened is, we have to visit the three offices for a single job. We have to collect the forms from the office located at the Osia Complex and then go to the counter at the Collectorate building to pay the fees and then visit the Arlem office. This is absurd. We have to spend the whole day for that,” said the president of truckers association Franky Gomes.
Meanwhile, the truckers threatened to take to the streets on October 22 if the problem is not resolved in the next eight days.
There are around 300 trucks, owned by the members of the association.
