Tolsea wins Goa River Marathon

VASCO: Ethopia’s Adinew Tolsea emerged the winner of the 9th Skechers Performance Goa River Marathon (SPGRM) held between Chicalim and Cortalim on Sunday. In the women’s category, Seema from Delhi took the top spot winning the 42 km run by clocking 3:33:20.

Adinew, running in tough conditions, mainly humidity finished the race in 2:45:33. Following him second, Jitesh Vishwakarma from Madhya Pradesh clocked 3:02:12 and Vinayak Jambotkar of Belgavi clocked 3:12:18 coming third in the 42 kms mens race.  The 21 km half marathon men and women remained a close contest, as Kanakappa Donni of Belagavi finished it in 1:16:18 as he was followed second by Goa’s Teddy Cardozo at 1:17:24. Indian Army man, Chandrasekhar Ukey clocked 1:17:39 to come in third.

In the women’s half marathon, Pune’s Swati Gadhave won the race with 1:32:04 on the clock as Priyanka Chavarkar (1:33:59) and Vinaya Malusare (1:38:59) came in second and third.

A total of 6,000 runners participated in the 42km, 21km and 10 km competitive races. A 5km fun race was also organised. Actor Sanya Malhotra of the Dhangal movie, flagged off the 5km race and gave away the prizes.
