The 13th edition of the DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas was inaugurated on Monday by the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, minister for art and culture, Govind Gaude, secretary for art and culture, Chokha Ram Garg among other dignitaries at Kala Academy, Panaji. The speaker for day one of the festival was retired Indian weightlifter, Padma Shri, Karnam Malleswari.
The Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa, every year, organises the DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas to commemorate the legendary Damodar Dharmanand Kosambi, Indian mathematician, statistician, historian, and polymath who contributed to genetics by introducing Kosambi’s map function. Chief guest for the event, Sawant in his address stated that this festival is vital in order to strengthen the flow of ideas among each other. Highlighting the fact that this year’s festival is women-oriented, he said: “All four speakers are women and that is what makes this festival different. Women from different fields who have reached great heights in their careers have been invited to speak at this festival and this exchange of ideas will help everyone.”
Guest of honour, Gaude welcomed the dignitaries and the audience to the festival. He reiterated that the aim of this festival is to share ideas. “Personalities will share their experiences and motivate us to do something and inspire us. Such a personality is Karnam Malleswari,” he said. He appealed to Goans, especially students to participate in this festival.
Post the inaugural function, Sawant released the CDs from the last edition along with the brochure for this year’s festival.
The four-day festival will also feature first Indian woman medallist in Paralympic Games, Padma Shri Deepa Malik; managing director and CEO, Northern Arc Capital, Kshama Fernandes and the first woman sarpanch with an MBA in India, Chhavi Rajawat, who will share their thoughts and ideas with the people of Goa. Post the talks, interactive sessions will be held between the speakers and the audience.
