Textile and Clothing workshops organised at Goa College of Home Science

The department of Textiles and Clothing, Goa College of Home Science organised two workshops at the college premises. A ‘Brush Stroke Fabric Painting’ workshop was organised as part of the institution’s Community Outreach programme. The innovative workshop was supported by the Pidilite company. The workshop was attended by 130 participants of all age groups. These included members of the lay public and teachers from higher secondary schools. Various leaf and petal motifs were taught, which can be applied on clothing, linen, tile, ceramics or as part of wall decoration. To develop entrepreneurial skills in the students of Textiles and Clothing, a ‘Stitching and Darning’ workshop was also organised. The workshop was supported by the Singer company. The students received hands-on experience on 3 models of the Singer Fashion Maker machine. Demonstrations included basics of threading the needle, bobbin winding, setting the stitch length, programming embroidery stitches, darning, button attachment and buttonholing. Assistant professor of Textiles and Clothing, Charlotte Lourenco coordinated both these workshops.
