PANAJI: Senior BJP leader Vinay Tendulkar was on Monday re-elected unopposed as president of the party’s Goa unit. The party office bearers proposed only his name for the post and it was unanimously accepted by all.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, Dilip Gandhi, who was the election officer for the election held on Monday, during the executive meeting held in Panaji declared that Tendulkar has been elected as the party’s state unit president.
Tendulkar, a former minister, is the first state leader of the party to be elected to the post for a second consecutive term. “I am thankful to the workers, leaders and people of Goa, in general, for retaining their faith in me,” Tendulkar said after the announcement was made during the meeting.
He said the party is all set for the 2017 Goa assembly elections and claimed that the performance of the BJP-led government in the state is enough for the party to obtain a clear mandate. He said the party workers will work to finish the existence of Congress party during the 2017 assembly election and added that BJP’s target is to win 26 seats this time.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that Tendulkar is the right choice for the post of pr敓牡档湉敤數of the party unit in the state as he has always been sacrificing for the benefit of the party. He also said that during the forthcoming assembly election, BJP will win the Margao seat under any circumstances.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that Tendulkar has set an example of a dedicated party worker whenever he has got an opportunity and because of his contribution at various levels, he has been re-elected unanimously as the state BJP president.
