Tenders for new Vasco bus stand, hospital in 10 days: Almeida

VASCO: The Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Saturday informed that tenders for major developmental projects involving the upgradation of the KTC bus stand at Vaddem and sub-district hospital at Chicalim will be floated within the next 10 days.
Speaking on the sidelines of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in Vasco, the Vasco MLA Almeida disclosed that two major developmental projects which includes the upgradation of KTC bus stand at Vaddem and sub- district hospital at Chicalim is based on the BJP’s assurance to the people ahead of the assembly election.
“The existing KTC bus stand which is located at Vaddem in Vasco will be converted into an ultra-modern bus stand which will have a multi- storied parking facility, an air-conditioned hall with a seating capacity for over 1,000 people. The front portion will be equipped with government complexes and shops which will help KTC to generate revenue”, told Almeida.
He opined that once the new ultra-modern bus stand gets commissioned at Vaddem, the traffic congestion in the city area will be resolved. He disclosed that all the buses thereafter will operate from the new KTC bus stand. He further informed that the total cost of the ultra-modern bus stand project which is in the pipeline is estimated to cost Rs 60 crore.
He further maintained that the estimates of the proposed sub-district hospital to be constructed at Chicalim behind the existing Cottage Hospital will be finalised next week. The proposed 120 bed sub-district hospital will be constructed in L-shape in the first phase without touching the existing Cottage Hospital.
“Once the sub-district hospital gets commissioned, it will be a boon for the people residing in Mormugao taluka”, stated Almeida and further opined that the patients will not have to be shifted to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital at Bambolim as the sub-district hospital will be equipped with modern medical facilities.
He also stated that the proposed work of beautifying the Vaddem Lake will be tendered within a fortnight.
The Vasco MLA was of the opinion that the proposed fish market project in Vasco is the need of the hour. “There is a need of seeking public opinion over the proposed fish market and the people should come forward to support the project”.
The South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar praised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiative to launch the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which is a concept of Mahatma Gandhi.
“It is the duty of every citizen to keep their surroundings clean”, stated Sawaikar and further opined that the people should not depend upon civic bodies or the government agencies to clean their surroundings.
