The state BJP government ignored the MHA guidelines and asked the teaching and non-teaching staff to join duty at colleges and educational institutions, putting them at a great risk of contracting COVID-19, alleged Congress legislator of Curtorim, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Friday.
He pointed out that the MHA guidelines clearly say that colleges and educational institutions will remain closed till July 31. It has been further stated that online/distant learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged “but the BJP government led by Dr Pramod Sawant ignored it and risked the lives of teaching and non-teaching staff of Goa.’’
He has written to the chief minister, with a copy marked to the chief secretary and the director of education pointing out the grave lapses in following the MHA guidelines.
As COVID-19 cases are rising at an alarming rate and already lives are lost , I earnestly request to follow the contents of the said letter in its true spirit; please do not put the lives of faculty members, teachers, researchers, non-teaching staff in danger, let them work from home, he pointed out. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also condemned the government for forcing the teaching faculty to join duties when the MHA has asked the state government to keep institutions shut till July 31.
