Stating that incubation centers are need of the hour, the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant on Friday, urged Goan engineers to avail of government promoted incubators and co- working spaces.
“Outside IT companies are come to Goa and it is difficult to see our IT engineers are sitting idle at home,” said the Chief Minister. He said that, Goan engineers and also other students who have completed their studies should approach EDC and utilize its schemes to start own business instead of sitting at home and waiting for government jobs.
The Chief Minister was speaking during the launch of expansion in capacity of Ignite, the EDC Innovation Hub. The incubator expanded its seating capacity from 78 to 100 seats. Talking about the incubator he said that, it is a good initiative by EDC as more than 13 companies are already utilizing the facility. “So many engineers are present in Goa. They are not aware about this facilities,” added the Chief Minister. An MOU was signed between EDC and Goa Engineering College, Fatorda, aimed at boosting the initial career of fresh passed out engineers.
The Chief Minister spoke in the presence of Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Chairman EDC; Sanjay Satardekar, vice chairman; Kiran Ballikar managing director and directors, Ralph De Souza, Sandip Bhandare and Lalita Correia Afonso. Goa College of Engineering, Principal, MS Krupashankara was also present during the launch event.
Promising jobs to more than 5,000 IT engineers in the state, the Chief Minister asked them to keep a positive mind set. “More people will be benefited if EDC collaborates with other engineering colleges in the state. Goa will be top most state in IT sector in the next two years” said Sawant.
Inaugurated by late Manohar Parrikar, ex- chief minister, the ignite incubator was opened on July 16, 2018. The incubator is running at healthy occupancy which prompted EDC to expand its capacity from 78 to 100 seats.
On the MOU with GEC, Tanawade, said,
“Laboratories and other technologies provided by GEC will be utilized by young
startups that are joining our incubation center. Fresh engineers of GEC will
benefit from our employment scheme.” He added that, the EDC is promoting the
Chief Minister Rojgar Yojna (CMRY) to create entrepreneurs. “Qualified
engineers and other high qualified Goans are applying for low government jobs
just to make sure that they get monthly salary, which is very unpleasant
situation,” said the EDC
