More than 500 tourists stranded in the beach belt and even Goans stuck in other states are in touch with Calangute MLA’s office for help and quick facilitation of collector’s permit for them to travel.
Sources from the MLA’s office in Calangute told this daily that stranded migrants and tourists approach the office on daily basis seeking help as regards formalities for their travel with multiple restrictions being in place due to COVID-19.
“We get more than 500 people a day for help in getting the collector’s permit to travel in their vehicles or by hiring tourist vehicles. There are more than 500 tourists stranded in Morjim, Anjuna, Vagator, Tiracol, living in rented rooms. Even Goans who are stranded in Mumbai, Belagavi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Lucknow are calling up our office to get help with availing the permit. We keep getting calls from 5 am till midnight,” sources stated.
Migrants and stranded tourists are being helped in getting the collector’s permit so that they are able to travel by their vehicles, bikes and buses to their states for which more than 1000 permits were being sought.
Sources said that “even buses are being arranged for migrants to travel to Karmali and Margao railway stations; some migrants do not have mobile phone to get SMS update but we manage it all for them.”
It is learnt that shack owners have arranged buses to take their staff to thier states. Almost 25 buses have left by taking permits from those states to travel, it was stated.
