Steven, Samson guide Ambelim into quarters

CUNCOLIM: A goal each from Steven Pinto and Samson Simoes helped Ambelim SC register a 2-1 win over Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa-Verna and enter the quarterfinals of Rising Cup football tournament, at Cuncolim grounds on Monday.

Ambelim found the mark in the 27th minute as Steven Pinto after receiving a neat assist from Samson Simoes slammed the ball past the bewildered Rossman SC keeper Christo Rego.

Ambelim SC continued with their good play and buttressed the lead in the 33rd minute through Samson Simoes after Samson Fernandes fed him a nice pass.

The teams departed for lemon break with Ambelim SC enjoying a comfortable 2-0 lead.

On crossing ends, the teams fought on equal terms with the defence of both the teams holding their fort well.

Rossman Cruz had some glorious goal-scoring chances but their strikers failed to make most of it, particularly Savio Fernandes who shot wide from close distance.

On the other hand, the defence of Ambelim SC stood its ground firm as it hardly gave any to the rival strikers to have a clear look at their goal.

Ambelim SC defenders Michael Silva and Vincent Fernandes did a good job for their team so as their midfield which too functioned smoothly. Ambelim could have inflated their lead further in the last few minutes of play, but the strong goalkeeping from Rossman SC keeper nullified all their attempts.
