The directorate of art and culture has announced the Goa State Cultural Award for the year 2018-19 to Suresh Walve, former editor of the Marathi daily, ‘Navprabha’.
The award consists of a memento, a shawl, a certificate and cash award of `1 lakh.
Walve, who had been in the field of journalism for 36 years retired as the ‘Navprabha’ editor in 2008.
Walve is also a prolific writer and has written a number of books including ‘Saralvaat’, an autobiographical account tracing his journey in the field journalism; ‘Smriti (vi) shesh’, a compilation of obituaries of prominent personalities, which has been prescribed by Goa University for the final year BA course as a reference book; ‘Udat Udat’, a travelogue of foreign visits; and an abridged version of the Marathi state musical, ‘Saubhadra’.
In the past, Walve has been conferred upon with numerous awards including Bhatagram Bhooshan Award, Anna Phanse Award, Bharatkar Hegde Desai Award, Laxmidas Borkar Award, Narad Award, and so on.
Furthermore, Walve has been active in the field of social and cultural work. He is also a well travelled man having visited many places around the country as well as the developed world countries.
