By now many must know about Dhiti Lotlikar whose music video of herself singing ‘Apghat’, originally sung by Chris Perry/Lorna, was trending on social media apps like WhatsApp and Facebook.
A class nine student of Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao, Dhiti is also the winner of the Konkani Solo All Goa inter-school singing competition.
Her passion for singing began at a young age as she used to sing with her father and sister. The 14-year-old says: “We would sing random songs and that is how I got interest in singing.” Since she and her sister had an interest in singing, her father sent both of them for a two-month singing training in Mumbai wherein they learnt the basics of singing. However, now the 14-year-old does not go for any training or classes, but practices every Sunday for two to three hours alongside her sister.
Dhiti likes trying all languages and therefore, loves singing in Konkani Hindi, Marathi and sometimes English also. And though she was always inclined to singing it was her school music teacher Neil Dcruz who motivated her towards singing more. She says: “In school I used to participate in live bands, different competitions, group singing, and solo singing which improved her singing.”
Speaking about her win, she says that she never participates in any competition with a thought to win. “I participate because I love singing a lot,” adds the young singer. Besides singing she plays badminton and has represented Goa thrice at national level.
She further says that her music teacher has plans for some live concerts, and to make original song videos with their school band. In future she wishes to complete her graduation and plan something in music and badminton.
