St Sebastian, Benny XI, Siolim Sodiem win

Benaulim: St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim recorded a 2-1 win over St Anthony SC, Colva in the GFA Third Division League (Salcete) match played at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Thursday.

All the three goals were scored in the second session.

In the first half, St Anthony started brightly with Rosario Coutinho and Baptist Fernandes connecting well. The duo orchestrated the play for the Colva side. Denzil Coutinho and Malik Torgal had couple of chances in the first session but St Sebastian UC did well to thwart any danger. At the other end, St Sebastian UC’s Alex Colaco supplied regularly to the men upfront and Savil and Declan defended well.

In the second half, St Sebastian Union finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute through Savil D’Souza and then doubled the account in the 77th minute through Alex Colaco. St Sebastian UC put up a better performance in the second half. Baptist Fernandes managed to reduce the margin for the losing side.

Meanwhile, in a Bardez zone match played at Chapora ground, Benny XI SC clinched a thrilling 4-3 win against Sai Avtaar SC, Anjuna.

Dominating the opening minutes of the game, Benny XI broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through Micheal Dias. Manthan Parwar doubled their lead in the 12th minute. Sai Avtaar’s Krishna Palyejar and Abhishek M created some chance upfront but lacked sharpness and failed to convert the opportunities.

Finally at the half hour mark, Sai Avtaar managed to pull a goal back through Dhiraj Salgaonkar. But just when it looked like the Anjuna team would restore parity, Benny XI SC consolidated their lead through Micheal Dias, 3-1. However, Sai Avtaar came back strongly and managed to restore parity just before the breather netting two goals in the span of nine minutes through Rohan Gadekar and Jitendra Chauhan.

In the second half, Manthan Parwar scored the match-winner and also completed his brace in the 84th minute.

At Siolim Church ground, Siolim Sodiem SCA eased past Xetrapal Sports Club, Siolim 3-1. Xetrapal SC took the lead through Gopi Kesarkar in the 13th minute which was cancelled out by Siolim Sodiem’s Prestonio Fernandes. The first half scores were 1-1.

In the second half, second half substitute Sardar Nadab and Pankesh Gatekar scored two goals to take the final tally to 3-1.
