Navelim: St Anthony’s SC, Colva entered the quarterfinals of Gold-Silver Rolling Trophy football tournament after getting past CAC, Cansaulim 4-3 via tie-breaker, at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Friday.
The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time.
Both the teams matched each other well in all the departments of the game with the defence and midfield of either side playing their role to perfection.
The strikers on both the sides however displayed poor shooting abilities despite having some great chances to find the mark.
CAC’s Chadwick Furtado came close to find the mark on two occasions on either session, but his angular shots missed the target narrowly.
Aaron Fernandes was another player of CAC Cansaulim who created some forays and also displayed some firepower, but his shots were off the target.
The Colva side too had their opportunities to find the mark with Francis Pauskar and Kabir Khan pressing hard. They combined well with each other but lost the plot once inside the rival box.
In the last minute of play, Kabir Khan’s powerful shot sailed over the CAC Cansaulim bar, missing the mark narrowly.
As the teams were involved in a deadlock, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners wherein St Anthony’s SC, Colva proved to be better shooters.
