SS Dempo College Inaugurates IATA Authorised Certification Course


On the occasion of World Tourism Day, S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics launched its IATA-authorised training centre on September 27. Director, department of tourism, Government of Goa, Amey Abhayankar was the chief guest for the function. Other dignitaries present included MLA and GTDC chairman Nilesh Cabral, IATA regional training business development manager Gurjit Gill (AVMP), and administrator, Dempo Charities Trust, Sunil Prabhudesai.
Amey Abhyankar shared memories of his college days with students and advised them to make the best use of all opportunities available in the college. He also extended support towards the development of students pursuing tourism as a career. He stated that the MA (Tourism & Heritage Management) programme and IATA certification together gave one a world class standard if one wished to pursue one’s career in tourism.
Nilesh Cabral urged youngsters to utilise the opportunity to explore the state of Goa in all its hues and colours, saying that even though Goa is a tiny dot on the country’s map, there are many places that remain unexplored here.
At the same time, the valedictory function of D-Tour 2014, a two-day inter-collegiate competition organised by the department of tourism and heritage management of the college was also held. A total of thirteen colleges across the state participated in the contest. In a contest that saw over 13 colleges participating, Nirmala Institute of Education, Altinho were declared Winners of D-Tour 2014. The second place went to Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim.
