Sports Day held at St Xavier’s Institute, Curtorim

St Xavier’s Institute celebrated its 66th Annual Sports Day on the theme ‘Believe it, Do it, Achieve it’. 

Chief guest for the function was parish priest of St Alex Church, Curtorim, Fr Joseph Rowland Salema who declared the sports day open. Guest of honour was retired teacher of the school, Laurita AF Sardinha. The function was presided over by president of Curtorim Educational and Welfare Foundation, Mariano Almeida in the presence of chairperson of the School Managing Committee, Maria Carma I De Mendonca.

Headmistress of the School, Melania Da Costa e Vas spoke about the achievements of the students.

Besides the march past, mass drill and the regular sports races, a variety programme displayed the all-round talents of school students. The programme included the star dance, fan dance, pom-pom drill, Zumba and Goan folk dances. The cycle drill and the mallakhamba performance displayed students’ courage and physical fitness.

Prizes for academic and sports excellence were also presented at the function
