Sporting Clube outplay Panjim

Duler: Sporting Clube de Goa registered a thumping 4-1 win over Panjim Footballers in the Goa Football Association (GFA) Goa Professional League match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday.

Akeraj Martins (48’), Joseph Clement (72’), Marcus (90+3) and a Kunal (90+4) own goal helped the Flaming Oranje score four goals. Clifton Fernandes pulled a goal back for the Panjim team.

In the first half, Sporting Clube de Goa created couple of chances but good goalkeeping from Panjim’s Preston denied them the goals. He first blocked George’s well taken free-kick and then denied Marcus.

Minutes later, Sporting Clube de Goa’s Phillip did everything right when he dribbled past two defenders but with only the keeper at his mercy, he shot wide.

In the second half, substitute Akeraj Martins scored the first goal when his 25-yard strike landed in the goal making 1-0.

Panjim Footballers keeper Preston Rego was at his best once again as he denied Marcus from scoring from inside the box.

At the other end, Panjim’s Vallmiky after making a run on the right flank played a ground cut back pass in the box to Alston, but played the the ball to Llyod who was in better position, however, the last man’s shot sailed over the bar.

In the 62nd minute, Panjim’s Clifton Fernandes scored through a 40-yard strike which crashed in the top corner giving no chance to Sporting Clube de Goa keeper Akshat Hadkonkar.

In the 71st minute Sporting Clube were awarded a penalty when Panjim Footballers’ Joyson Gauncar brought down Akeraj Martins in the box.

Sporting Clube’s most experience player on the field — Joseph Clement stepped over and coolly converted the spot kick.

Later, Panjim’s Kunal Kundaikar came with a crucial block to deny Marcus in the box.

In the additional time, Sporting Clube scored their third when Girish Naik played a chip pass to Marcus, who slammed past the Panjim keeper Preston.

Minutes later, Sporting Clube were gifted their fourth when Kunal scored an own goal when he tried to clear the ball to safety.
