DULER: Sporting Clube de Goa registered a 3-0 win over Curtorim Gymkhana in the twelfth round match of the Goa Pro-League match played at Duler stadium, here on Saturday. In the first leg meeting, Sporting got the better of Curtorim Gymkhana 5-1 .
After Saturday’s win, Sporting climb to the top spot with 26 points while Curtorim Gymkhana stays at the bottom without a single point.
Sporting went into the breather leading 2-0. Both the goals came from the boots of captain Rowllin Borges from the penalty spot.
The highlight of the match was the exit of both the custodians in the first session of play.
Sporting keeper Kamaljit Singh had to leave the field due to an injury after he collided with
Curtorim’s Treyson D’Costa in the 27th minute while Curtorim’s keeper Muhammad Shaikh was red carded after his second booking for dangerous play.
In the early part of the match, Marcus Mascarenhas had two chances to put his team ahead off Rowllin Borges crosses. But Marcus first failed to keep his header inside the rival goal framework in the first instance and minutes later his shot from close went over the crosspiece.
However in the 34th minute Ganesh Thakur, getting hold to a pass from Quan Gomes, moved dangerously inside the penalty box where keeper Muhammad Shaikh brought him down. Referee Chandrashekar Shirodkar pointed to the dreaded spot.
Rowllin Borges made no mistake to give Sporting Clube the required breakthrough, 1-0.
Hardly five minutes later, Curtorim keeper Muhammad was cautioned and sent off by the referee for his dangerous tackle on Abhishek Rawat. Once again Rowllin Borges stepped forward and scored, 2-0.
On resumption of play, Sporting continued to restrict their opponents into their own half and after some probing, finally in the 57th minute, Ganesh Thakur got his name to the scorers sheet as he drove a stiff grounder to the first post to beat substitute keeper Hanslum Furtado, 3-0.
Sporting should have netted at least four more goals. In the 76th minute ,James Fernandes strike rebounded off the post while Sumeet Passi shot from close was diverted for a corner by the Curtorim keeper.
In the last ten minutes of the match, Sporting’s James Fernandes and Ganesh Thakur missed two open sitters, to the relief of their opponents.
