PANAJI: The legal metrological department has recently seized about 104 speed limit devices and four currency sorting machines worth Rs 14 lakh for not meeting the norms laid by the Legal Metrology Organisation (LMO).
It also registered cases against five dealers for selling goods without containing manufacturing and packaging details, which is violation of Legal Metrology Rules.
The team raided the premises of a dealer selling currency sorting machines in city and speed governor seller at Merces, Ponda and city centre in Patto, as also along the Old Goa by-pass road passing through Bainguinim. The inspections were conducted under the supervision of assistant controller of metrology Pankaj Narvekar.
“As many as 50 packages of speed governor worth Rs 5 lakh were confiscated from a dealer located along Old Goa by-pass road. About 25 packages of speed limit devise seized from dealer at city centre. A total of 10 packaged speed governors worth Rs 1.5 lakh have been seized from a dealer located opposite seabird courier services in Merces. Fourteen packages of speed limiters worth Rs 2 lakh were seized from a dealer located at Varkhandem in Ponda. All these do not confirm to the Package Commodity Rules, 2011,” Nitin Purushan, inspector of controller of legal metrology, stated in a release here.
“The products are seized as these packages do not have declaration regarding the name and address of the manufacturer/packer/importer, price of the package, customer care number/email address, month and year of manufacturing/packing/import etc,” the release said.
