Dicarpale: Sao Jose de Areal entered the semifinals of Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament after registering a comprehensive 4-0 win against Varca SC, at panchayat grounds, Dicarpale on Friday.
Leading 2-0 at half time through goals scored by Alvito Mauro (6th minute) and Monty Valadares (26th minute), Sao Jose de Areal pumped in two more goals in the second session through Ignatious Oliveira (60th minute) and Navil Fernandes (63rd minute) that completely floored the rivals.
Both the teams played cautiously in the first five minutes, but as the match wore on they began playing positional game, displaying good passing abilities and fire power too.
SJD Areal created a sudden move in the 6th minute that saw Alvito Maura beat Varca SC keeper with a powerful shot and go into the lead.
SJD Areal looked strong in the defence with Jeston Fernandes, Franky Valadares, V Travasso and Vishal Fernandes giving a good account of themselves, as they stayed alert and also went forward to spread the ball well to the medios.
Areal’s midfield too looked well knit as they combined well to supply the ball upfront. LarryMascarenhas and Vishal Fernandes impressed a great deal with their passing abilities and fine footwork and kept the rival defence on tenterhooks for most part of the play.
SJD Areal buttressed their lead in the 26th minute when Monty Valadares bulged the nets in style off a great cross from the right flank.
Varca SC however responded equally well by creating some dangerous forays, but much to the dismay of their teammates the strikers messed up all the chances that came their way.
Varca SC’s Jolon Cardozo and Dylan Lima were always on the goal hunt as they kept on troubling the rival defence time and often.
Varca SC’s Nash Pereira dazzled with his fine ball control and passing. On two occasions, he came close to finding the mark, but his well taken shots in either session were well collected by SJD keeper Joseph Monteiro.
The second session saw SJD Areal dominating the proceedings with Varca SC falling back to defend for most part of this session, though the team did make a few raids which had no effect.
SJD Areal made the score 3-0 in their favour when Ignatious Oliveira sent an angular effort that beat Varca keeper in the 60th minute and three minutes later Navil Fernandes scored Areal 4th goal to march into the semifinals with a comfortable win.
