Salgaocar FC and Corps of Signals split points after playing out a thrilling 1-1 draw in the GFA Goa Professional League match played at 3 MTR Signals grounds, Rawanfond on Friday.
Salgaocar FC took the lead in the 45+2 minutes through a goal scored by attacking medio Chaitan Komarpant and Corps of Signals, who came up with some sterling moves in the second session, levelled the score through substitute striker Ankit Singh.
While the first half largely belonged to Salgaocar FC, the second session saw Corps of Signals make a stunning comeback, as they almost dominated the second half of play.
Salgacoar FC were reduced to ten men in the 85th minute following a direct red card to their defender Daniel Gomes who deliberately fouled against Signals Ankit Singh as he while preventing him from finding the mark, brought him down a few metres away from the top of the box.
Salgaocar FC went into the lead following a long lofted ball by Selwyn Miranda to Chaitan Komarpant who dashed inside the box and tapped the ball to the far end of Signals nets, beyond the reach of keeper Binu Purishothaman.
Salgaocar FC, who had more of a ball possession in the first half, made the first serious attempt to find the mark in the 15th minute, but the good shot taken by Devendra Murgaokar was saved by the Signals keeper. Thereafter, Chaitan send a long cross to Selwyn Miranda who simply could not find the mark though the player dazzled with his play for the rest of the proceedings with quick footwork and fine positional play
Corps of Signals made only one worthwhile move in the 44th minute when Hiidrom Surjit Singh dodged his way into the Salgaocar FC box, but could not beat their strong defence who snatched the ball from him before he could pull the trigger.
Then came the lead for Salgaocar FC in the add-on time of 45+3 minutes when Komarpant beautifully tapped the ball to find the mark in the 47th minute.
The script of the match in the second session changed drastically with Corps of Signals having a large say into the proceedings. Salgaocar, who were handicapped with Komarpant getting injured in the 55th minute, looked without any much teeth in the upfront.
Denil Rebello who came in place of Chaitan Komarpant was not as sharp as he was expected to be and as such Salgaocar FC lost the sting in their attack even though Ribahav Sardessai, Salgaocar’s under-20 medio kept on spraying some good passes which went unutilised due to lack of punch in the attacking line up.
Taking full advantage of the situation, Corps of Signals launched heavy attacks and looked threatening all the while.
Their hard efforts bore fruits when Solomon Khongsai, the skillful midfielder, sent a good cross to Ankit Singh who bulged the nets with a clever tap to beat the Salgaocar FC keeper Nora Fernandes in the 60th minute of play.
Goaded by the success, Corps of Signals came hard against the Salgaocar FC team who fell into defensive rather than launching attacks.
However, in the last quarter of the match the proceedings looked interesting as both team went all out for the kill in an attempt to find the match winner, but in vain.
With this drawn encounter, Salgaocar FC have now collected 16 points in eleven matches while Signals have 8 points from 12 matches.
