Extending their service to society during the lockdown, physiotherapist Ketan Bhatikar along with the MG Yuva Sangathan recently took the initiative to serve almost 1500 families in Ponda.
The initiative began with Bhatikar himself delivering groceries and medicine to those in need during the initial days of the lockdown. He also provided meals to stranded migrants and daily wage workers in and around Ponda with the help of his team MG Yuva Sangathan.
Taking note of the same, many social workers and like-minded people joined hands with Bhatikar, each helping in various capacities such as food donations, food preparation, transport, etc. The team also recently distributed an approximate 10000 masks to the people of Ponda.
“During initial days of lockdown, people were strictly prohibited from coming out of their house. But as a doctor I was allowed to do so. Hence I went out and helped people who were in need. As the movement to serve gained momentum, more people came forward to help. Their participation in serving the society in such a crisis helped us to reach out to more people,” Bhatikar said. He credits owner of Ganganath Pai store at Ponda who played a crucial role in providing their grocery stock for home delivery, and Radhakrishnan and William Stanley from the Kerala Association who also donated cooked-food packets which were delivered to people in need.
