Ponda: Terming the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) unconstitutional Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) members protested against the bill on Thursday at Ponda and demanded its withdrawal as early as possible.
Around hundred members of SDPI took part in the protest and the rally was held near Dada Vaidya Chowk, Ponda.
According to the members of the SDPI, the Citizenship Amendment Bill is unconstitutional and it is a systematic plan of the BJP government to give citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs and other faiths excluding Muslims who were left out from the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Through this bill the BJP with its RSS mindset is targeting the Muslim community of the country.
Even though the bill has been passed by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, we will continue to oppose it until the government withdraws the bill, president of SDPI Shaik Muzaffar said while addressing the press. We will do door-to-door visits throughout the country and spread awareness about the bill, said Muzaffar.
During the protest rally, SDPI members shouted slogans against the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
