MARGAO: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday stated that scrapping of the Regional Plan 2021 in toto and repeating the whole task again would not be a fair exercise.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of inaugural function of the 14th state youth festival of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs here, and clearing the government stand on the regional plan, Parsekar said “The RP 2021 is kept open for public after completing the whole exercise over a period of time. Services of experts were involved in it and scrapping it in toto will not be a fair thing. If there are any discrepancies, the government can review them and do the necessary changes.”
A certain section of NGOs, including the GFDO, has been demanding total scrapping of the RP 2021 claiming that it is the same plan prepared by the erstwhile government. The plan is kept open for suggestions till December 31.
On the language issue, the chief minister said that he would not make a comment on those who are trying to derive a political mileage out of it.
Reliable sources informed that one of the MLAs is intending to present a private member bill, seeking equal status to Marathi on par with Konkani, in the coming assembly session.
“Those who want to play politics on the language issue can do so. I have nothing to say,” the chief minister remarked.
On the youth festival, he said that the village-level education quality has improved and the youth from remote areas can now compete with the urban counterparts. He further stated that the state’s art and culture has to be taken globally.
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said such festivals will provide an opportunity to the youth to exhibit their talents and build confidence. MLA Dr Pramod Sawant congratulated the sports minister for putting the sports policy in place. He said the government understands the importance of the youth and, therefore, laid emphasis on it.
The directorate of sports and youth affairs also presented the state youth awards to Neha Khorjuvenkar for 2013-14 and Raghuvir Purohit for 2014-15. Anjuna Kaisuva Social Sports and Cultural Club was also awarded for their achievements.
