School student feared drowned in Amona river

Ponda: A class IXth student of Sharada English High School, Marcel, who had ventured into a tributary of the Mhadei river for swimming,  feared drowned at the Amona bridge at Khandola on Sunday.

The missing student has been identified as Aryan Premchand Gaud (15), a resident of Khandola-Marcel.

Ponda police said that Aryan had gone for a swim in the river with his brothers and friends from the neighbourhood at around 5 pm at Khandola-Amona.

Six boys aged between 11 to 16 years had gone for swimming in the Amona river in the afternoon. One of the boys named Aryan Gaud went missing after he jumped into the river from a canoe, police said, adding that  Aryan is feared drowned in the river.

Firefighters  were called in for rescue operation. However, they could not trace the missing boy until late Sunday night, investigating officer Suraj Kankonkar said.

A missing report has been filed in the case. Search operation will resume on Monday to locate Aryan.
