SC Davorlim through to semis after shootout win

Sporting Club of Davorlim entered the semifinals of Nuvem Parish Cup football tournament defeating Curtorim Gymkhana 7-6 via tie-breaker in the quarterfinal match played at church grounds, Nuvem on Thursday.

The teams played a 1-1 draw during the regulation time.

SC Davorlim had a larger say in the game during the first session and they went into the lead in the 15th minute through their captain Robinson Colaco, who barged into the box after receiving a neat pass from the right flank and then crashed the ball to the far corner of Curtorim Gymkhana nets, sending his effort beyond the reach of keeper Johson Bhagat — who otherwise had an excellent day under the bar.

The second half however was controlled by Curtorim Gymkhana who split the rival defence with some slicing passes that were pleasing to the eyes of the spectators.

After several dangerous forays, Curtorim Gymkhana succeeded in levelling the score through Jovial Dias who dodged past two rival defenders and then drawing out the Davorlim keeper Venson Figueredo sent the ball to the far corner of the rival nets.

The match as such was almost played on level terms with both the teams having some glorious chances in either session of play.

SC Davorlim could have buttressed their lead in the 25th minute when Micky Furtado was in the clear but before he could push the ball in, a Curtorim Gymkhana defender rushed to clear the ball to safety.

Soon came another chance for the Davorlim side; this time it was Clifton Rebelo whose shot whizzed past the post and moved out menacingly, giving a real scare to Curtorim Gymkhana keeper Johnson Bhagat.

Curtorim Gymkhana too missed a couple of chances in the second session as Milagres Fernandes and Savio Fernandes faltered once each despite coming close to the rival goal.

Yet another chance fell at the feet of Curtorim Gymkhana’s attacking medio Josley Gomes whose rising shot flew over the SC Davorlim’s bar, missing the mark narrowly.

As the teams were involved in a deadlock, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners wherein Sporting Club of Davorlim proved to be better shooters, scoring accurately through Robinson Colaco, Mable Miranda, Milton Colaco, Venson Figueredo, Micky Furtado and Jaison

Curtorim Gymkhana could find the mark only through Josley Gomes, Amar Estibeiro, Johnson Baghat, Savio Fernandes and Allan Peixote.
