Sao Joao jersey launched at Bhuteabhat

The BhuteaBhat Club, Vasco  in association with MVR homes launched their Sao Joao jersey at the hands of Vasco MLA and KTCL and PDA chairman, Carlos Almeida at Bhuteabhat.

Others present on the occasion included councillor Deepak Naik; Siddarth of MVR homes; president of the BhuteaBhat Club (BBC); Ravi Luis along with active members of the club, Linton Baretto, Michael Pereira and Elvis Gonsalves.

The BhuteaBhat Club will be celebrating Sao Joao, the traditional feast of St John the Baptist, on June 24 from 11 a.m. onwards with the traditional jumping in the wells of Patrong, Bhutea Bhat and Mesta-wada. 

Chief guest for the festivities will be PWD minister, Deepak Pauskar while the guest of honour will be Vasco MLA and KTCL and PDA chairman Carlos Almeida.

The celebration will begin with prayers and worship at St Sebastian Chapel, Bhuteabhat, following which the revelers will proceed to the wells of Patrong, Bhuteabhat and Mestawada. Some of the wells are well over 150 years.

There will be traditional Goan dancers who will be accompanied by the brass band, Ghumot and Kansallem. Revellers will sport traditional headgear called ‘kopel’ made of flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Competitions such as best kopel and best Sao Joao decorated house will be held this year. The traditional procession to the wells will conclude with a mini rain dance.
