Salgaocar FC drop points to Panjim Footballers

Duler: Salgaocar Football Club, once again, failed to secure full points as they were held to a goalless draw by Panjim Footballers in the Goa Professional League match, played at Duler Stadium, on Wednesday.

Salgaocar FC had few opportunities in the early minutes of the match but Panjim keeper Preston Rego later made some brilliant saves to deny Steflon, Chaitan Komarpant and Devendra Murgaokar from close. Salgaocar midfielder Saeesh Halarnkar was unlucky in the 17th minute as his sparkling strike from distance hit the far post and came into the play which was later cleared by Panjim skipper Kunal Kundaikar.

The Green Brigade once again came close to scoring in the 39th minute when their U-20 Ribhav Sardesai made a beautiful through-pass to Devendra in the box who covered some ground but failed to keep his strike on target from close as the ball went out for a goal kick.

With just minute left for halftime, Salgaocar midfielder Saeesh sent a perfect cross to Chaitan in the box. The last named, nicely controlled the ball before firing a powerful shot on target but Panjim keeper Preston rescued his side with an excellent save.

Frustrated with the chances muffed in the first session, the Salgaocar lads came out attacking and Devendra, Saeesh, Chaitan and substitute striker Stephen Satarkar kept the Panjim defence line on their toes. However, they could not make any changes to the

score line.

Panjim who failed to create any chances in the match had the best opportunity in the added time when their substitute winger Mahesh Kumar set up Chandan Gawas with just keeper to beat but Salgaocar keeper – who was tested for the first time – made a brilliant save to earn a point from the match.
