Ruling MLAs join Oppn for 12% budget provision for tribals

MLAs of BJP-led state government have demanded to strictly implement 12 per cent budget provision under tribal sub-plan to implement various schemes for development of the community.

Speaking on the tribal welfare department, BJP MLA Subhash Shirodkar said that the government has made less provision of about Rs 4 lakh in the budget for education of students belonging to ST community as a result the students could not take up professional courses and end up in taking regular science courses. Hence it is required to strictly implement 12 per cent provision made in the entire budget for tribal community.

“Instead of releasing funds under different schemes or giving subsidy to the family of tribal community, if the children of these families are given full support and developed by education which in return the economical condition of the family gets improve,” the MLA said.

An independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar also demanded implementation of 12 per cent budget provision for tribal department. He also asked to expedite the forest rights claims.

Congress MLA Ravi Naik said that not a single meeting was held to implement Atal Asra Yojana to provide financial assistance for construction and repair of houses of STs and demanded the number beneficiaries received financial assistance under the scheme.
