As part of their Ruby Jubliee Celebration, St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa organised an all Goa inter-higher secondary school talent contest titled ‘Xplorica-2014’ on September 13. This was the first time a higher secondary school in Goa had organised such an event. The contest was aimed at exploring student talent.
Chief guest, MLA Michael Lobo in his address said that St Xavier’s is one of the leading educational institutions. Principal Elvis Gonsalves highlighted the need for education for holistic growth of students and appealed to students to harness their academic as well as extra-curricular talents for all-round development.
Also present were manager Fr Arlino de Mello, vice-principals Magret Dias and Brian Duarte, principal of St Xavier’s College, Fr Walter de Sa, administrator Fr Agnelo Fernandes and convenor of the event Maria Auxilia.
Eight hundred students from twenty-one higher secondary schools across Goa participated in the event.
The talent contest had ten on-stage and off-stage events lined-up. Wiz-kids (quiz), Extempore (public speaking), Mash-Up (fusion dance competition), Panch Minute Ki Nautanki (monologue) and Mimos (mime) were part of the on-stage events. Off-stage events included Tamosoma Jyotirgamaya (lantern-making), Phool Khile Gulshan Gulshan (flower-making), Collage Competition, Temple Run (treasure hunt) and Young Scientist (science exhibition). The evening saw RMS Higher Secondary School, Margao winning the overall champions trophy. Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panaji and Damodar Higher Secondary School, Margao were adjudged as the first and second runners-up respectively.
