Real Kashmir FC kept Liston Colaco at bay and it ensured them an entry into the semifinals of the Durand Cup as they held FC Goa 0-0 in the last Group C match in Kolkata on Saturday.
Real Kashmir needed a draw to win and FC Goa needed to win. Liston Colaco had two clear cut chances in the ninety minutes and he failed to beat the Real Kashmir goalkeeper on both occasions and it summed FC Goa’s last game.
FC Goa finished with
two wins and a draw, the same as real Kashmir, but a goal difference of plus 5
saw the new
entrants from Kashmir through to their first semi-final.
FC Goa were the first
to threaten their opponents when in the 9th minute Liston found himself in a
one to one
situation against the Real Kashmir goalkeeper Lachenpa but the former failed to get the ball into the goal.
In the 18th minute, Liston had another whiff at an opportunity but could not deceive the Real Kashmir defense.
As the clock crossed 23 minutes Liston tried to assist by crossing the ball to Lalawmpuia whose shot hit the post and none of the FC Goa players could capitalise on the rebound.
Both teams trooped out for the lemon break with FC Goa having better exchanges and showing more confidence as the game progressed. Real Kashmir, on the other hand, appeared content with the score line.
The second half saw the boys from Kashmir take ascendance and the FC Goa getting into the panic mode, time and again. FC Goa never had a clear cut chance in the second session and it sufficed Real Kashmir to make it to the semis.
Liston was awarded the man of the match but the forward did not appear happy as the lads from FC Goa saw their hopes extinguished after a relatively persuasive campaign.
