In order to regain the greenery along the Swatantra Path in Vasco, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has started a drive to replant trees along the road stretch.
It may be recalled that trees along the road stretch, which according to locals endangered life and property, had to be cut.
MMC chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar, city ward councillor Krishna Salkar besides other MMC officials were present while pits were being dug up and trunks of old Ashoka trees were being removed.
MMC chairperson Gaonkar said that there was a need of cutting down the age-old Ashoka trees along Swatantra Path as they endangered lives of shopkeepers, pedestrians and even may have damaged vehicles parked along the road.
City ward councillor Salkar said that the incumbent council is committed towards the welfare of the people and development of all wards. He said that the forest department will be intimated about the tree plantation drive. He also said that the council has proposed to take up several developmental works and has also decided to beautify Vasco city under the 14th Finance Commission funds.
