Vasco: Railway is taking all necessary steps to tackle the threat of Covid-19 pandemic. As people were facing the shortage of face masks and sanitizers in the market, railway is manufacturing them in-house to deal with the crisis. With lockdown in force, the staff other than in essential category, are working from home. Some of the staff have volunteered to manufacture the face masks from home.
A helper attached to the Carriage and Wagon Depot of Vasco Da Gama Jayanti has stitched 200 face masks. Laxmi and Radha, the staff of Carriage and Wagon Depot in Hubballi have prepared 775 face masks in total. These masks will be distributed to essential category staff who are working to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities across the country.
Meanwhile, Diesel Loco shed of Hubballi has manufactured five touch free hand wash arrangement. The hands free hand sanitizing arrangement helps in sanitizing the hands without physically touching the water tap and sanitizer dispenser, thereby making it safe for usage at work places. This system will also help in saving lot of water. The touch free hand wash arrangement have been manufactured from the released materials available in the Diesel Loco Shed.
A water tank of 50 litres capacity is mounted on a fabricated stand along with a wash basin. A gravity water tap is connected to this water tank. A hand sanitizer dispenser is fixed adjacent to the tap. Both the tap and hand sanitizer dispenser are mechanically linked to peddles fixed at the bottom portion of the stand. Both the tap and sanitizer can be independently operated by pressing peddles. Releasing of peddle will automatically shut off supply of water and sanitizer liquid.
Out of the five unit manufactured, one will be used by the Diesel Loco Shed and remaining four will be distributed to other railway offices.
