Goa-Hyderabad match drawn

PORVORIM: Goa gained three points by virtue of their first-innings lead as the Ranji Trophy cricket match against Hyderabad ended in a draw after the umpires called off play due to rain here on Sunday. The field umpires called off play after tea on the final day of the Group C match, at GCA ground. Resuming at overnight 349/5, Goa made 425/7 when the heavens opened up. Rahul Keni(17) and Shadab Jakati (0) were the batsman at the crease. Goa had taken a 100-run first innings lead. Hyderabad earned a point from the drawn match. The highlight was a fine century by Sagun Kamat who scored 109. Kamat struck fours and a six while facing 286 balls. NT


Velsao SCC enter quarters

PANAJI: Velsao Sports and Cultural Club defeated Mormugao United 5-4 via the tie-breaker to enter into the quarterfinal of the 23rd All Goa Cortalim Villager Cup inter-village Football tournament organised by Cortalim Villager Sports and Social Welfare Association at Cortalim Church ground on Sunday. At the end of the regulation time the teams were held 1-1 draw. In the tie-breaker, Briana Diniz, Domnic Souza, Richard Rodrigues, Elvino Fernandes and Anthony Cardoz scored for Velsao while Darshan Ambore, Benicio Marques Saviour Gama and Loyed Rebello neted for Mormugao United Sports Club. St Xavier’s HSS judo state champions

PANAJI: St Xavier’s HSS Mapusa U-19 boys team emerged to be state champions at the all Goa Judo Championship organised by DSYA at Campal indoor stadium. St Xavier’s won 1 gold medal, 2 silver and 1 bronze by defeating Damodar HSS Gudi, RMS HSS Margao and GVM HSS Ponda. Gasper D’souza won the gold medal in 71 kgs category, Narayan Nagvekar won silver medal below 71 kgs category and Stanford Sequeira won silver medal below 45 kgs category. NT


St Xavier’s HSS boxing champs

PANAJI: St Xavier’s HSS Mapusa U-19 girls team emerged to be the state champions in boxing at the All Goa Boxing Championship by securing 5 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 1 Bronze medal. While the boys team of St Xavier’s HSS were content with the 3rd place at state level by securing 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. The team coaches were Purshutem Fadte and Samson D’Souza. The boxing team include Jeslyn Rodrigues (gold medal), Cheryl Rodrigues (gold medal), Preeti Verma (silver medal), Susanna Abreu (gold medal), Selma Dias (gold medal), Christina Rodrigues (gold medal), Siddharthi Chavan (gold medal), Digambar Muradkar (gold medal), Lazer Deva (silver medal), Sairaj Pauskar (silver medal), Reuben Fernandes (silver medal), Placid Carrasco (bronze medal), Samuel Cordeiro (bronze medal), Sohan Parab and Amit.
