Pune-Mumbai highway closed after landslide

PUNE: The Pune Mumbai Express Highway has been closed due to heavy landslide in Aadoshi Tunnel near  Lonavala.The Highways police said that a person died, while three others were injured due to the landslide. The two-way traffic was closed for five hours.

The Express Highway’s single lanes from both side were opened at 1600 hrs for the public, said the Highway Superintendent of Police Sunil Sonawane.

It was closed due to heavy landslides in the Aadoshi Tunnel going towards Mumbai. The rescue operation was going on and some casualties were expected, Sonawane added.  The injured were admitted to the government hospital at Khalapur.

‘’We are on the field and our team is helping the peoples, said the SP.  Though I appeal that people traveling on this highway should co-operate with police authorities and maintain discipline, they should rather use the old highway for their convenience,’’ he added.
