Panaji: Pre-monsoon works are in full swing in the city and its surrounding areas so that citizens should not face inconvenience in the monsoon season.
The Corporation of City of Panaji has undertaken the pre-monsoon works on a war footing and has started trimming of trees in the market area, cleaning of gutters near the church square, lifting of debris, lifting of silt which was lying on the roadsides for days together after cleaning of gutters and drainages.
The work on trimming over grown trees, branches posing a danger and which may come crashing down are being cut. The work has started on Saturday morning and would be completed before the end of May.
CCP has also undertaken painting of circle benches opposite Singbals’ Book House, garden fencing near church-square opposite Hotel Kamat and removal of road side shrubs on the Altinho –Panaji road besides cleaning of debris was also undertaken.
Truck loads of debris and garbage which was not cleared at various places in the city are being lifted to keep the promise given to the people and make roads free from garbage, debris and silt, so that no flooding takes place in the city during the monsoon.
In order to bring cleanliness to the city, the mayor had promised that 20 temporary workers will be taken on contract basis and a truck will be made available to fill the potholes in the city.
At many places in the city, the work of filling up potholes is going on smoothly and the work is being carried out in the night.
