PONDA: The much awaited Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir (RGKM) will be inaugurated on April 28 at 5 p.m. by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in the presence of Minister for Arts and Culture Dayanand Mandrekar, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, Factories and Boilers Minister Deepak Dhavalikar, MP Narendra Savoikar, Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar and PMC chairperson Dr Radhika Nayak.
The then home minister Ravi Naik decided to renovate the RGKM in 2010. After eight years the renovation could not be completed. The Ponda MLA and chairman of RGKM Lavu Mamledar also faced many hurdles to complete the project due to lack of funds. Finally the complex has been renovated and residents can now enjoy various cultural programmes.
The seating capacity of the auditorium has been increased to 1050. There is also an open air stage, latest audio and electrical system, training classrooms, rehearsal room, rest rooms, attractive interiors and many new amenities.
