Ponda: Former BJP MP and NRI commission chairman Narendra Sawaikar sensitised the Muslim community of Ponda over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act by holding a meeting at Curti.
Sawaikar urged the people not to panic over the CAA and claimed that it will not affect Goa in any way. Along with him, BJP leader Sunil Desai, IGM president Mullam Abbas Shaik and Shamsher Khan were present.
Sawaikar said that the CAA has been introduced to give citizenship to the refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries belonging to the minority communities.
He urged the people not to confuse the CAA with NRC. Both are different and serve different purposes, he said. Sawaikar gave an example of the Uniform Civil
Code in Goa which gives uniform rights to all Goans irrespective of religion. Similarly, CAA has been introduced to give certain rights to people
who have been denied the same for years, he said.
