Police control room received 1107 calls in last one week

Panaji: In the last 7 days, the police control room (112- emergency response support system) has received over 90 calls pertaining to incidents about home quarantine persons roaming in public, people not maintaining social distancing; shops open after 7 pm. These calls also include information regarding persons entering Goa without permission, children playing in public areas and so on.

Such information is immediately passed on to the concerned police station to verify and take necessary action, informed a senior police officer.  

In one week, the police control room has received around 1107 calls of which majority were related to inquiry of quarantine centres, travel pass and food related. There were around 1,013 such calls wherein callers wanted to know details such as address/contact of quarantine centres, information regarding obtaining travel pass to go out or enter the state and also distress calls pertaining to food. Depending on the information sought, the police control room provided them the necessary information/procedure and also the concerned person whom they can contact. While 94 calls were related to home quarantine person roaming in public, people not maintaining social distancing; shops open after 7 pm and so on.

It may be recalled that soon after the lockdown on March 24, the calls to the police control room had increased by three fold. Most of the calls were pertaining to food supplies and also information related to suspected patients of coronavirus. However, after some days with situation appearing to be normal, the calls decreased police had said. Calls pertaining to food supplies were referred to the concerned police stations which in coordination with the district administration attended to it, while calls pertaining to suspect patients were referred to the 104 helpline, police had said. According to the police most of the calls pertaining to information on suspected patients were actually ‘false alarm’ and were factually not correct.

The police control room (112- ERSS) vehicles, which are attached to police stations have played multiple role which include enforcement of lockdown, creating awareness on coronavirus disease, assisting in distribution of groceries and other essentials as well as providing assistance to the general public.
