Pax of Nagoa squeeze their way into quarters



A brace of goals by Frazier D’Costa and a goal by Savio Fernandes handed Pax of Nagoa-Verna a 3-2 win against Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and enter the quarterfinals of Nuvem Parish Cup football tournament played at church grounds, Nuvem on Friday.

Pax of Nagoa who played with intent went into lead in the 19th minute when striker Savio Fernandes bulged the nets with a neat placement to beat the rival keeper Swizel Pereira.

The team had equal share of opportunities in the first session to find the mark but the strikers failed before an open goal on either side.

The second session saw both teams playing a cautious game in the first few minutes of play and the ball was confined to midfield for the major part of this half.

However, suddenly, Pax of Nagoa went into top gear in the last quarter of the match and came up with two beautiful goals through Frazier D’Costa who bulged the nets in the 60th and 62nd minute to score his brace of goals for the day. On both the counts, Frazier ran through the rival defence to find the mark with ease. Cliff Barreto who had a good game for Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda pulled a goal back in the 56th minute with an angular effort and Francis Andrade was the other scorer for the Fatorda based team finding the mark in the 65th minute.

Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda did put up a lot of pressure in the dying minutes of the game to try and level the score but in vain.
