Port Minister Michael Lobo has said that buildings coming up along the main road from Mapusa to Calangute via Parra need to have designated parking provision for four-wheelers as that will ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Lobo was speaking at a function at Parra where he inaugurated a parking lot. Also present were sarpanch of Parra Delilah Lobo, panchayat members and locals.
Lobo highlighted the problems being faced by vehicles proceeding to Mapusa from Calangute via Parra and said that buildings situated along the main road at Verla Canca do not have proper provision for parking of vehicles and hence, vehicles are found parked haphazardly along the stretch.
This, he said, was contributing to minor accidents and also traffic congestion.
He stated that owing to traffic problem occurring along the stretch, the building owners will be requested to realign the compound walls in order to create more space for car parking.
He informed that the main road from Parra to Mapusa has been notified as no parking zone and this has helped in ensuring smooth flow of traffic and a similar measure will be undertaken at Verla Canca, along with installation of road dividers wherever required.
So also designated parking areas will be identified and signboards installed wherever necessary, he stated.
He noted that speedbreakers were not a solution to accidents and sought people’s cooperation to undertake measures for smooth traffic flow at Verla Canca. He said that gaddas along the said stretch will be removed as per High Court order.
Lobo said that road
